Getting started
What you need
An iPhone or iPad with iOS 16 or later for the parent and one for the child, each with its own iCloud account. The route on the map and photo alerts require iOS 17.
Connect your child's device
- On your device, open SafeKids, choose Parent and tap Add child.
- On your child's device, open SafeKids, choose Child and grant Screen Time authorization.
- Still on your child's device, tap Scan QR code and scan the code shown on yours.
With or without Family Sharing?
With Family Sharing (recommended) the authorization is confirmed with your Apple Account and your child can't remove SafeKids or its permissions without you. Without Family Sharing the authorization is confirmed with the passcode or Face ID of your child's device: fine for older children or children outside your family group.
Frequently asked questions
How do I invite the other parent?
Tap ··· on the main screen, then Invite another parent: one QR code for all your children. For a single child, open their page and tap Invite another parent. The other parent, in SafeKids, taps I received an invitation from a parent and scans the code. They don't need to be in your Family Sharing group.
I forgot the parent PIN
On your device, open your child's page and set a new PIN: it reaches your child's device at the next sync. After too many wrong attempts, PIN entry is paused for a while.
The location is inaccurate or doesn't update
On your child's device, open Settings → SafeKids → Location and check that Always and Precise Location are on. The location updates while your child moves; when they're still, iOS updates it less often to save battery. The circle around the pin shows the margin of error.
The rules don't reach my child's device
Check that both devices are connected to the internet and have iCloud on. On your child's device, open SafeKids and pull down to refresh. On your child's page, the "Needs attention" section lists any missing permissions.
How do I remove a child and their data?
Open your child's page and tap Remove: all their data is deleted from iCloud for every connected device. You can then delete SafeKids from your child's device.
Can the developer see my child's data?
No. SafeKids has no servers: data stays on your family's devices and in your iCloud. Read the privacy policy.
